Experiments with Figure

As my thesis formed, I symbolized humanity’s impact on its environment by creating ghostly self-portraits in the scenes I photographed.

Evolution

Inserting the human figure was a vital progression in my understanding of this series, and it made me realize there was a strength in absence. I decided to omit people from my images entirely, and found myself drawn to an indirect reminder of my presence; light.

I began using external sources of light to alter the natural atmosphere of my images. In one location, I crawled inside an overgrown concrete pipe with a flashlight while my camera was on a timer. Red light spills out from the opening, altering the mood with an understanding that this is not natural.
